Immediate. A complete run of 29 issues bound in 25 fascicules, unpaginated (circa 24-50 pp. each), of the French artistic and literary journal, edited by Anne-Marie Christin, featuring poetry, music, and artwork by a wide range of writers and artists including Georgette Simon, Jean Laude, Jacqueline Sublet, Raymond Gid, Philippe Soupault, Marcel Jacno, Monique Boucher, Jean-Marie Durand, Louis Simon, André Vigneau, Carlo Berte, Georges Douillet, and many others. Profusely illustrated throughout, some illustrations full-page and some in color, with many photographs by Daniele Lazarevsky. 4to. Original wrpps. Paris (Minotaur) 1974-1981. Through its mix of poetry, photography, calligraphy, and typography, l'Immédiate was "aimed at overcoming the traditional barriers between text and image and, more generally, between seeing and reading" wth its usage of images not merely to illustrate but to aid in interpretation. The editor, Anne-Marie Christin, conducted research on writing as a visual language. As a result, L'Immédiate combines "the abstract and the figurative, experimental printing techniques, new dialogues between word and image" and an "interplay between Western and non-Western writing systems" (KU Leuven Library virtual exhibition). Very scarce; as of January 2021, OCLC only locates holdings of this journal in a single North American institution.
