With pencil marks consisting of minus and plus signs in the margins, as well as very few longer annotations. Very lightly rubbed at corners; internally very good. Contemporary photostat copies of this list of displaced German scholars, published by the Emergency Committee in Aid of Displaced German Scholars in 1936, with a supplement dated 1937 and an additional report published in New York in 1941. "The object of publishing this list is to find openings for those German scholars who have lost their positions in Germany as a result of political developments since 1933... The list includes the names of many Jewish scholars, of scholars with Jewish antecedents, often remote, or connected with Jews by marriage, and of a considerable nmber of scholars who are pure "Aryans," but whose convictions made them inacceptable to the German Government." Included are numerous famous scientists and scholars, such as Einstein, and entries mention their current whereabouts and state of employment. The font and binding lead us to assume this copy was prepared in Germany either during or shortly after WWII. The numerous pencil annotations suggest that someone was carefully keeping track of these scholars. These materials were published for internal use only and the original editions are exceedingly scarce in the trade.
