Florentiae (Florence]: Bernardi Juntae [Bernardo Giunta], May 1532., 1532.. Good. - Small octavo, 6-1/2 inches high by 4 inches wide. Bound in full early natural vellum titled in holograph on the spine. The covers are slightly warped and stained. The collation is as follows: [1] blank, leaves [1] through 131, and [1] leaf illustrated with an attractive printer's mark; followed by leaves [1] to 52, with an attractive pictorial title page illustrated with a variant printer's mark. (The leaves are numbered on the rectos only, thus the first book has 264 pages and the second book has 104 pages). The colophon is printed on the verso of leaf 131. As issued, pages 42, 44 and 46 are misnumbered as 34, 6, and 38 respectively. There is evidence of early worming affecting the endpapers and pastedowns as well as the inner and outer edges of the last page. The hinges are cracked and the rear endpaper is torn. There is otherwise only occasional minor foxing and faint occasional staining. Good.

Mounted on the front pastedown is Leo Samuel Loschi's discreet attractive book label "Ex libri Leonis S. Olschki bibliopolae Veneti". Leo Samuel Olschki founded the Libreria Antiquaria Editrice in Verona, Italy in 1886. The firm moved to its permanent home in Florence in 1897. It is among Italy's most distinguished publishers of important works in the humanities.

This book subsequently came into the collection of Arthur Mullin, with his serpent & anchor bookplate mounted on the front pastedown.

As noted by Bandino ["De Florentina Juntarum Typographia"], the second work by Lucius Florus does not include a date or identify a printer. However, the Giunta mark with 2 infants holding a lily and with cornucopias at their sides is present on the title page.

The Roman historian Titus Livius [Livy] (64 or 59 BC to 17 AD) was responsible for the monumental history of Rome, "Ab Urbe Condita". It is his only surviving work and only a fragment of it exists. The book offered here describes the fifth decade and of that only the first five books remain. These give an account of the Roman war with the Macedonian King Perseus. The corruption of several Roman governors is described as well as the Third Punic War.
