About This Item

New York: Dial Press, 1971. First printing. 134 pp., 5.5 x 8.75 inches. Perfect-bound in printed card covers, with printed dust-jacket. Drawings by Don Bolognese. Uncorrected galleys for this early young adult title, published the same year as the author’s Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. The book is set on a sharecropper plantation much like the one where Gaines was born. Slight sunning to edges of card covers, otherwise a very good copy; laid into a very good example of the dust-jacket, with some rubbing and a date in orange grease-pencil on the front flap (very likely the date of receipt for review). An uncommon title, in a very scarce advance state.
