London: Constable and Company/Houghton Mifflin, 1926. Cloth. Good. Brown cloth. No jacket. 131 pp. Black and white illustrated plates throughout. A descriptive survey of various houses, tenements, and gardens throughout London that were "lost" due to redevelopment or improvements throughout the city. Written as a travelogue describing the author's itinerary, accompanied by black and white reproductions of watercolors by J. Crowther. This includes Maunder's Fish Shop, Turner's House, Lawrence Street at Chelsea, the Grey Coat School, Emery Hill's Almshouses, Lady Dacre's Almshouses, Old Archway Tenement, etc. GOOD condition. Minor to moderate soiling, a few small stains and uneven toning/fading to the covers. Minor scuffing along the extremities. Endpapers offset and browned.

The artist John Crowther was commissioned either side of 1880 by Sir Charles Chadwyck-Healey to make water-colours of London buildings under threat from redevelopment - Beresford Chancellor describes a selection of sixty of them in a circular tour - Chelsea (where Crowther was living in 1881), Westminster, Whitehall, the Strand, the Borough, and home via Stockwell, Vauxhall and Battersea. Crown 4to (27cm). (xiv),(132),[ii]pp. Sixty plates, many in colour. Original buckram, lettered in gilt; top edge gilt; lightly worn, a little bruised and slightly dulled; a few slight marks; front endpaper replaced; a few leaves roughly opened, but a reasonable copy of an attractive production.
