A lovely set with beautiful Art Nouveau bindings printed in gold on white clorth, plus red dustjackets with gilt title, plus a matching red slipcase; t.e.g. 18.8 x 11 cm. Vol. 1: 259 pp. + engraved frontispiece portrait of Hawthorne & 24 hors-texte plates of Italian subjects; an old inscription inside the front cover, plus another bleached one on the flyleaf, and the most recent owner's in red ink. Vol. 2: 259 pp. + 23 hors-texte plates. Signature in red ink on half-title. The dustjacket spines have some fading; the dustjackets are stiff paper faced with red cloth of a fine weave.
