Tokyo and London: Wunternaum Press and Peter Owen, 1964, 1970. An important archive relating to the British publication of Yoko Ono's Grapefruit, comprising the true first edition limited to 500 copies [Tokyo, 1964] used for setting the UK edition; the UK publisher's file copy, being the first English language edition and the first with contributions from John Lennon; the original photographic artwork for the same; a separate lettering transparency; a mock-up of the front and rear jacket panels mounted on board; the final/sample jacket photograph. Together 6 items. The Tokyo edition bears the artist's literary agency stamp, loose prelims and some wear consistent with production use. The British copy is rubbed else near fine. Artwork boards and transparencies are marked up with directions, dimensions etc, with two tissue guards present. The larger board is date-stamped 4th March 1970. Grapefruit is an artist's book, originally published in 1964 and was enlarged and re-issued after the author's marriage to John Lennon. It has been described as one of the monuments of conceptual art of the early 1960s.
