About This Item
W W Norton & Co., Fifth Avenue, New York 1995 Hardcover, 21.5 x 13.5 cms (8½" x 5¼"), with dust jacket Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, barcode etc. GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket This is a book about love and the influence of money. It is also a dialogue between artist and patron, student and teacher, and a story of growing up gay in a time and place where circumstances were sufficiently difficult to encourage dishonesty and dishonor. Kate Mollet lied to her mentor, and confidante (and in a sense her first love), Aunt Dorothy - A.D. - in order to study at Oxford with her own first woman lover. Its about being gay in 1950s America - an impossible time of silence, shame and deceit.
