About This Item

Bombay, India, 1853. Very good overall. A ticket made out to a Thomas Young, mate, last serving on the ship 'Potomelia'. The statement on the verso by C. Kingcome, Registrar of Seamen, Bombay, explains that this ticket is required to be deposited with the Master of the vessel and would only be returned to the named party upon completion of the voyage. Information on Thomas Young written here includes his birth date, 24 October 1813, at New Castle in England; his 'Caste or Profession' is listed as 'Protestant'. The ticket was issued to Thomas Young by the Registrar of Seamen at Bombay, and signed by him. 5 x 7 3/8". Cream paper with b&w crests, slt dusty at front, dusty at verso, slt wrinkled.
