1900. QUACKENBUSH, Neva. MISTLETOE GLEN. Illustrated. Elkhart, Indiana: Mennonite Publishing Company, 1900. Small octavo, pictorial red cloth, stamped in black depicting hanging mistletoe. First Edition. A very rare Mennonite children's book about some nice, old-fashioned children, whose first duty and pleasure was to obey their parents; to be kind and considerate to other people; and say their prayers and be loving children. Signed by Quackenbush on the front endpaper. Also with an autograph letter signed from Quackenbush tipped to the rear pastedown (with folds): "Warsaw, Indiana, November 20, 1900. S.B. McManus. Dear Friends- I wish to thank you for the interest you have taken in my little book. I to [sic] think it is very pretty and, if it takes with the little folks I will feel amply repaid. I send you a copy for review, and if you have a little daughter, please accept it as a gift for her. I do not think I could add anything of worth to your review for I am sure your own words will be more acceptable than mine. Thanking you once more for our kindness. I will close. Neva Quackenbush." A copy of the review is tipped to the front pastedown- I have been unable to learn the identity of the recipient of the letter. A rare book, especially with autographed material. Good (covers fairly bright but there are several light dampstains on the covers; text clean & tight). $350.00.
