London: Jonathan Cape, 1955. [James Bond] FIRST EDITION, BINDING A (Fabroleen material). This version with 'shoot' correctly printed to page 10 (state B). Octavo, pp.256. Publisher's black cloth-effect paper over boards, titled in silver, in 'flame' design dust-wrapper by Kenneth Lewis priced at 10/6 to both front and rear flaps. An honest copy which is not washed, re-coloured or restored in any way. Neat owner name beneath flap else a clean book. Jacket is moderately used showing the habitual fading of the spine colours (the usual condition issue inherent with this title), soft horizontal fold 1cm from foot, old dry label fallen away. The bibliography states 'the panels are prone to browning'. Housed in a bespoke black cloth clamshell to a uniform design by Gilbert.

Softcover, all edges tinted yellow, in publisher's illustrated wrappers, front cover is priced $2.25. No ink names or writing, discreet book shop stamp to first leaf, covers a little rubbed, spine rolled. Very good. Bibliographer's copy, with pencil ownership within. Published in July 1981, only the first eight titles in the Bond series were issued in this format. Uncommon. Gilbert A3b (10).

One of a selection of titles by Ian Fleming, uniformly cased in harlequin colours, comprising sheets from the Ian Fleming Centenary Edition in an elegant new hardback binding for 2022. Fleming's third book Moonraker, being his most 'police detective' in style, is the only James Bond episode to be set entirely in England.

A genuinely scarce book in jacket, no other copy being available at the time of writing. An important edition; this is the first ever British large print version of any James Bond novel; issued exclusively to lending libraries these are virtually impossible to obtain without institutional markings.
