About This Item
Middletown, Connecticut: AMerican Education Publications (c.1971) 'The Moonstone' has been called the first of the great English detective novels. its author based his character of Sergeant Cuff on an actual policeman, Inspector Whicher. Two things in particular make this novel an unusual mystery. First, it is realistic about human nature. Sergeant Cuff is not a superman who never makes mistakes. Secondly, 'The Moonstone' is unusual in the way the story is written. The author lets different characters take turns in telling all they know about certain incidents. Like witnesses in court, each character can tell part of the story. The full story is not known until the end of the book. This book is very well illustrated, many illustrations in b/w and nine in full-page colour. Name to fep. A sound, tight, clean book showing minimal edgewear to book extremities.. Hard Cover. Near Fine.
Synopsis
I address these lines - written in India - to my relatives in England.
Reviews
On Dec 6 2011, Bragi said:
One of the best detective novels I have ever read. This book is a precursor to all detective classics in English. The style of writing is unique, the way the narration begins and accounts of each and every character that are involved in the plot, is one of the first of its kind. This is a must read book for all those who are interested in detective novels.
