SIGNED BY ESTHER BURNS on front free endpaper, and inscribed "for Nancy" (this book is from the estate of Nancy Carroll Draper, a well-known philanthropist). Unpaginated. Color and b/w illustrations. Black and red text. Pictorial endpapers with a poem by Hillaire Belloc on front and rear free endpapers. Seven pages have some small tan spots in bottom margins (not foxing). Endpapers have some browning from publisher's glue seepage (appears similar to age toning). Binding is tight. Pictorial covers with blue cloth spine. Cover edges are age-toned and lightly rubbed. Cover corners are rubbed to boards. Top front cover edge has a small bumped spot, and two tiny chafe marks near spine. Top spine edge has tiny chips; bottom spine edge is missing a small diagonal piece. Cloth is torn along rear spine edge, but spine is still intact, and is age-toned. Neat previous owners 3 line inscription (dated 1876) on the half title. Some minor spotting to a few pages but generally a clean and bright copy in the publishers highly decorative green cloth binding with bevelled edged boards. Elaborate gilt and blind stamped decoration and lettering to the front board. The rear board with a blind stamped decorative panel pattern. Spine fully decorated and lettered in gilt. Off white endpapers. All edges gilt. Some bumping to the extremities and the spine a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this pretty book. A classic piece of decorative Victoriana.

Aside from some darkening to the plain spine and minor rubbing to the extremities this is a very good copy. The book is undated but the British Library catalogue gives the publication date as 1915.
