About This Item
Montreal: Quince Productions & The Graduates` Society of McGill University, 1957. Staplebound. Near fine. (24 p.) 26 cm. B&w illustrations of cast members, producer, etc. Staplebound booklet. Very slight discolouration or soiling to outside.
A wild success creatd by McGill students, many of whom went on to prominent careers in the arts. Galt MacDermot, for instance, went on to compose music for the Broadway hit "Hair." Brian Macdonald went on to become an internationally renowned choreographer and Donald MacSween became the general director of the National Arts Centre. This playbill would be from their third run after an initial seven-day run on campus and a second longer run in the summer. The success of these two runs was encouragement enough for them to take the show to the Stratford Festival. The show was eventually seen by 400,000 people and grossed a staggering $900,000! The play is a political satire about Louis St. Laurent`s smug Liberals, Quebec`s puritanical censorship, and academic life at McGill.
