V Hrabyni: Iskra, 1931. Octavo (21.5 × 14 cm). Original pictorial wrappers; 89, [2] pp. Very good; in protective mylar. This Czech work is a rare example of the Silesian avant-garde, published by the Silesian literary review "Iskra," which appeared in the small town of Hrabyně, near Ostrava. Its authors tapped into international modernist trends, despite their provincial setting, focusing on news about foreign films, theater, and literature; at the same time, they stressed themes of regional significance and allowed a measure of local patriotism. With appealingly designed wrapper by Bedřich Vrobel (1897-1939), a relatively unknown artist. Rear wrappers with an advertisement for the journal 'Iskra' (which we also have in stock -- please inquire!). Outside the Czech Republic, OCLC only shows the copy at Toronto.
