'Naqluna' or Some Pushtu Proverbs and Sayings by Boyle, C. A - 1938

Faqir Chand Marwah, 1938. Hardcover. A collection of proverbs and sayings from the Pashto border region of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Each proverb is presented in the original Arabic, followed by an English translation and an explanation and sometimes an equivalent proverb in English. Two copies of what were apparently proofs for the second edition, typeset from the first with a new introduction for this edition. Both copies are hardbound and extensively corrected in ink. The corrections in the two copies are often the same, but one has many more corrections to the Arabic text than the other. *** Each copy is presented to the author by the publisher on the title page. At first glance, these seem to be copies of the second edition marked up for a third (there was a 1939 printing, which is quite uncommon). However, one of the corrections marked in this copy is to the title and that change was incorporated into the second edition, suggesting these copies were used for the second edition and not a third.
