Printed By And For Joyce Gold, At The Naval Chronicle Office, London, 1814. First Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Containing An Account Of His Shipwreck, Captivity, And Escape From France, After Undergoing A Series Of Sufferings Which Lasted For Nearly Five Years. Re-printed From The Naval Chronicle, With Additions By Captain O'Brien. Book - in Good quarter leather and marble paper boards with paper label to the spine - some surface rubbing to the marble paper and a small piece missing to the edge of the back board and slight rubbing to the extreme edges, slight marking to the leather spine. Contents, Slight loss also some staining and a partial number to extreme top corner of title page. Though conventionally bound at some time before 1851 when the inscription says it was presented to the 'Florence (?) Church Library the three holes from original 'stab' binding are visible at gutter, not effecting text, also some light age toning and a couple of pages have lost the very extreme top corner, 1cm approximately. Being part of a modest -this being book number 318 apparently- private library probably explains the numbers on the front free endpaper, and the reason for the figure '318' ? to the top corner of the title page. There is also a stamp to the rear free end paper stating 'Cancelled & Catalogued' there are no other signs that this book had ever been in an, albeit private, library as it is otherwise clean and tightly bound. An interesting and not unattractive copy of this scarce Naval memoir from the Napoleonic era. Size: 8.25 inches tall by 5.25 inches. iv, 212 pages. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 201-750 grams. Category: Biography & Autobiography; Ships & the Sea. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 8393..
