About This Item
New York: L. Nichols & Co., 1801. Third American Edition. Small 8vo, rebound in maroon clored cloth with leather spine label, and new endpapers, illustrated frontispiece, 359 pp. Contents with signicant foxing, and some staining, pages 9 & 10 with tear running through margin, last page chipped in top and right margins, but not affecting text; internally about good, but a tight copy. Donald Campbell (1751-1804) was a former military officer and well known traveller. On route to India he was shipwrecked in the Indian Ocean, and for a short time was a prisoner of Hyder Ali. He first published a book on his travels in 1795, which was very popular at the time, and several other editions were published.
