Williams travelled from Indiana to Oregon Territory in 1841, accompanying the first settlers migrating to the Pacific Coast. He returned by the southern route via Bent's Fort and Taos. Joseph Williams (1778-?) was an Indiana Methodist minister, that in 1841, at the age of 63, traveled, independently, overland from Independence, MO to Oregon and back.
