Folio, rebound in maroon library cloth, 66 engraved plates, including the frontispiece and two folding maps, [4], 682, [10] pp. Page edges with chipping, tearing and finger soiling, library stamp on title and last page, normal aging and foxing, some faint dampstains to some plates; otherwise very good. This is a substantial volume that provides a detailed history of London, and the surrounding area, beginning with its founding throufgh the year 1770, and includes coverage of law, architecture, and social and cultural history. This work is also packed with plates and maps, including illustrations of the fire of London in 1666, a new and complete map of London for the year 1770, the British Museum, the Bank of England, and St. Paul's Cathedral.
