Description:
New York, New York: Corinth Books, 1964. Soft cover. Very Good. Officially, the city's is made up of five boroughs, but New York to most people is that narrow strip of island called Manhattan. Over a million and a half residents of the island give "New York, N. Y." as their postal addresses and three million more -commuters, shoppers, tourists- flood into its 22.3 square miles daily ( as of the date of publication of this work -1964). This is an unpaginated work with much black and white photography. The back cover has two creases that go the length of the cover and one U crease at the top of the back cover. There is wear on the edges of the spine along both the front and back covers. Binding is tight and interior of book appears to be free of any markings. This work is truly a look back at what Manhattan Island was in the 1960's. A quite nice copy, given its age; available for immediate shipment, carefully packed!

New York: Corinth Books, 1964. A very good plus to near-fine copy, with modest shelfwear to edges of jacket, the binding tight and internally clean. 8vo (9 x 5.75 inches). Approx. 80 pages. McDarrah's black-and-white photographs. Original blue cloth; pictorial dust jacket. First edition, the scarce hardcover issue with illustrated dust jacket. McDarrah is one of the most celebrated photographers of New York City life, known for his work on the staff of 'The Village Voice' and his early documentation of the Beat Generation. 'New York, N.Y.' captures the well-known, and unknown, parts of Manhattan, and accompanies his images with his absorbing prose. McDarrah's versitile lens shows architecture, street life, portraits, environmental landscapes, and provides a kaleidoscopic view of the city. Corinth Books, owned by brothers Ted and Eli Wilentz, was a legendary hub of NY literary activity, and published some of the most innovative writers of the 1960s and 70s.
