New York: New Directions, 1947 First edition thus. Publisher's light blue paper wrappers lettered in black, designed by Alvin Lustig. A very good copy with some toning and wear to extremities, front hinge starting and a bit fragile, text block tight and clean. An attractive book featuring Alvin Lustig's distinctive and striking design style. Nine Stories is the second issue of the magazine Direction, published quarterly by New Directions press, each issue featuring a work or collection of works by a single author. This particular issue contains nine short stories by the Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov, best known for his later work, Lolita (1955). A skilled translator, Nabokov wrote fluently in three languages. Indeed, though Nabokov's stories appear in English for this publication, three, "The Aurelian," "Cloud, Castle, Lake," and "Spring in Fialta" were originally published in Russian, and "Mlle O" in French.. First Edition. Soft Cover. Very Good.
