[New York]: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, circa [1970]., [1970].. Very good. - Quarto [approximately 12-1/2 inches high by 9-1/4 inches wide], brown cloth titled in silver with a device in silver on the front cover in a dust wrapper. The corners of the covers are slightly rubbed. The dust jacket is chipped with a tear to the top edge of its front panel & a short tear to its bottom edge. The top edges of the dust jacket flaps are darkened & there are several crossed-out red ink prices on the front flap. xlii & 374 pages. 9 pages of color illustrations & profuse photographic illustrations & diagrams in black & white. There is a small area of soiling to the bottom edge. Very good in a good dust wrapper.

"Situated on the great plateau of central Iran, Nishapur was for centuries an important political and cultural center....Prior to the excavations conducted by the Metropolitan Museum's Iranian Expedition (1935-1940), Nishapur was little known. Subsequently Nishapur pottery and 'Nishapur' pottery have entered many museums and private collections." [From the dust wrapper copy]. The period covered by the book extends from the ninth century to 1221.
