Sevilla / Seville: Fernando Diaz, 1588. First printing. Hardcover. Good. First edition, 1588. Folio (30 cm), modern vellum and endpapers, title page in facsimile on old laid paper, a good copy, (18) 348ff. (i.e. 696 pp.) heavily illustrated with woodcuts of coats of arms of Andalusian nobility. First two leaves after the title page neatly remargined, f. 66 with 2 inch yellow tape stain, f. 112/113 has a horizontal patch filling in with old pen three or four lines of text on front and back of the leaf, small patch on f. 167 filling in a couple words in old brown ink, last page has had marginal and textual loss expertly filled in and text written neatly in old brown ink. Occasional notes and check marks to text, some light occasional damp staining, but altogether a good or better copy of a very rare volume that has fetched as much as 10,000 plus Pounds at auction (Sotheby's 2000) and twice over 7,500 Euros. Collated complete, f. 306 has hand colored coats of arms. Palau 16170.

Later tree calf, worn, front hinge split, rear starting, front endpaper torn at the top corner as is the title with an old repair and manuscript UZIA in the title to replace the missing letters. A few paper repairs in the margins, touching a few letters, a few short tears with no real loss, scattered pencil marks and a few minor marginal marks in an old hand. One group of pages trimmed a little close with loss of some text to the table on leaf 53 of the genealogy of the Kings of Austria. Generally minor scatterd foxing, browning and staining - mostly quite clean. Magnificently illustrated throughout with armorial devices - first and only edition of an outstanding work on the Andalusian aristocracy. [10], 348 ff.
