Monographs of the great primitivist Noe Leon.
Most of his work in this volume is from the 1960's and 70's
He mainly painted in Oils on wooden board
All the text is in Spanish.
Ocaña , 1907
Noé León, born in 1907 in Ocaña, Norte de Santander is the most prestigious Colombian naîf in Colombia and abroad. His work, interrupted by illness, is quoted at exorbitant prices.Discovered by the painter Alejandro Obregón during the first part of the sixties, León repeatedly exposed frankly naive paintings, characterized by the radiant presentation of a series of themes inspired by the daily life of Baranquilla and its surroundings. The leafy trees loaded with flowers and fruits, the animals of the region, especially babillas, micos and iguanas, the brightly painted buses, the steamboats of the Magdalena River, the shopping plazas with their shops and cafes, more something from his own fantasy and the occasional observation of reproductions of the customs officer Rousseau, they appeared in the oil paintings of León with a truly attractive color and grace. Chromatic arbitrariness, the naivety of spatial representation and the thoroughness of details mean that Noé León's work offers no doubts of any kind. The ocañero artist was the first and the most authentic Colombian primitive
