A handsome black Limited First Edition signed by the author and numbered 518 of 1,650 Limited Edition copies. Subtitled: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad 1863-1869. In fine unread condition but for a tiny lightness on the bottom edge, very minor; otherwise the gilt is beautiful. With gold gilt cover designs and page edges, moire silk endpapers and bound-in silk bookmark. 431 pp. with extensive index and maps. This well-known author and historian wrote many important historical books during his lifetime including "Undaunted Courage"; he died in 2002. Includes the Publisher's Note and Certificate of Authenticity from Easton Press. A beautiful copy.

The book is about the period of the railroad from 1863 to 1869. The railroad spanned from Omaha, Nebraska to Sacramento, California.
