About This Item
A complete run in 2 issues (12 and 8 pp., respectively) of the short-lived Lettrist journal conceived of by a group of young students consisting of Thierry Paul-Lévy, Paulette Liétard, Patrick Brault, Guy Chastel, and Jean-Charles Depaule, and published with the help of the Lettrists, directed by Jacques Spacagna with collaborative assistance from Isidore Isou and Maurice Lemaître. Not illustrated. Some slight toning, especially along edges, minor scattered soiling. 4to. Original stapled self-wrpps. Paris, 1962. Isidore Isou, a Romanian-born French poet, film critic, and artist, founded the art and literary Lettrist movement in Paris in the mid-1940s. Drawing inspiration from Dada and Surrealism, the Lettrist body of work encompasses all areas of art and culture, including poetry, film, painting, and political theory. The movement was named for its early focus on letters and other visual or spoken symbols. This periodical contains contributions from the student group and from major Lettrist figures, including Patrick Brault, Jean-Charles Depaule, Pierre Descamps, Paulette Liétard, Pierre Gaillard, Marcel Beuret, Jacques Spacagna, and a long piece by Isou titled "Contre la Megapneumie", a critique of Gil J. Wolman, an avant-garde artist and fellow member of the Lettrist movement.
