Madrid, Spain: Aguilar, S. A. De Ediciones, 1959. Hardcover. Very Good. Spanish Language two volume set of the Works, Novels, and other Writings of Armando Palacio Valdes. Printed in Spain and copyright 1959. Brown flexible leather covers in very good condition. Size of each volume is approximately 7"" x 5 1/2"". Vol I is 1 1/2"" thick while Vol II is 1 1/8"" thick. Authors facsimile signature in gold lettering on center of front cover. Spine contains gold colored lettering with author's name and ""Obras Novelas Y Otros Escritos I"" and same for II. Under the title is blind stamped a head portrait. Both front and rear endpapers of both volumes have a brown & white drawing of a man and a woman on paper of a heavier stock than pages inside. Frontispieces in both volumes feature author; Vol I Portrait style; Vol II author sitting in a chair. Text block is clean & tight with no writings or other markings noted. Papers are very thin, like onion skin, thus the large number of pages (noted below) for the thickness of the volumes. The first few pages in front & back, due to the thinness of onion skin-like paper, have ""wrinkles"" where bound next to the heavier weight of the illustrated end papers. All text edges are ""marbled"" with black and white design. Top and side edges show some age toning compared to bottom block. Brown satin ribbon marker bound-in in both volumes. Volume I Title Page: Obras Tomo I. Copyright page: Septima Edicion (Seventh Edition) 1,884 numbered pages. Volume II Title Page: Obras Tomo II. Paris, "La Connaissance", 1934. Avant-propos de Charles Du Bos. Première édition courante, quelques mois après l'édition originale tirée à seulement 164 exemplaires. Exemplaire numéroté No.690.

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence.
