New York: The Dial Press, 1924. A very good plus copy, internally fresh and clean, the spine label lightly chipped at edges and toned, a few small areas of wear to covers. 8vo. 120 pages. Original black half cloth, black boards, printed paper spine label, with an additional label mounted on rear pastedown. FIRST EDITION, first impression of Moore's second book of poetry, but the first published with her approval. The book won the Dial Award in 1924. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Moore on the front flyleaf: "This is Dean Warren Bower's copy of my 'Observations' - the preferable edition - and I wish I had given it to him / Marianne Moore / March 26 1954 / not corrected however." Warren Bower was professor of English at New York University and was well known for his WNYC radio program, "The Reader's Almanac," which offered interviews with authors between 1938 and 1967. In 1962 Bower was given the Peabody Award for the show. Moore appeared on the program in 1961 and was interviewed by Bower about her collection 'A Marianne Moore Reader.' By the time of her inscription, Moore's reputation was fully established: she had won the National Book Award, and the Pulitzer and Bollingen Prizes in 1951; she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1955. Abbott A3.1. A wonderful association copy of one of the landmarks of early 20th century verse.

Description:
1499 Mantuanus Poetry + 1507 Satires of Persius Post-Incunable Satyrae ROME Roce Along with Juvenal, Persius was one of the greatest 1st century Roman satirists. His works consisted of elements of stoicism and were greatly influenced by Horace and Juvenal, in fact the satires of both Juvenal and Persius are often found published together. In his 'Satires', Persius sought a few major philosophical ideas:
·
important questions to ask the gods
·
the meaning of life
·
the importance of gaining knowledge
·
freedom through Stoicism
·
the proper use of money
This 1507 post-incunable printing of Persius's 'Satyrae' was published in Paris by Jean Barbier and Denis Roce. This edition was edited by Giovanni Britannico, a 15th-century grammarian who is best known for his edition of Persius.
This book is bound with another early Roce printing of Baptista Mantuanus poetry. Mantuanus was a Carmelite poet whose 15th-century works were influential during the Protestant… Read More

Chicago: Literary Times - Cyfoeth Publications, 1965. Author's Edition. Near Fine. First edition. Copy number 3 of 5 [from an edition of 500] of Bukowski's private "Author's Edition," with a typescript signed by Bukowski stapled in at the center. According to Aaron Krumhansl, "As late as the early 1970s Bukowski still retained multiple copies of this title. At some point he created a small private 'Author's Edition' by tipping in or binding in at the center staple either an original signed illustration or a signed typescript poem. Not less than three nor more than five such copies were created." This copy in particular is mentioned by Krumhansl as the Polak copy. 23 pp. Stapled tan wraps. Near Fine, faint waves to wraps. Bukowksi's only self-published chapbook, comprised of "overlooked (or looked-over and shunned)" poems.

Cleveland, 1966. Faint toning. 11 x 8.5 inches. Title leaf of translucent paper with an original drawing by levy. Mimeographed. 12 pages, on rectos only. Stapled wrappers, front cover with original ink scarab drawing by the author mounted. One of 33 copies. A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. London: Richard Griffin and Company, 1861. A lovely near-fine copy, the binding firm and bright. The contents with a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown and a little spotting to the endpapers, are otherwise clean and fresh throughout. A superb example of a very scarce title. 8vo (21.8 x 15.7 cm). Publisher's original green cloth with gilt titles and decoration to the upper board and spine, gilt to all page edges. Illustrated with 20 mounted albumen prints. FIRST EDITION of one of the earliest works of poetry to be illustrated by photography. The anthology combines extracts from authors including Keats, Clare, Wordsworth, Cowper, and Longfellow, with mounted photographs depicting idyllic scenes of contemporary rural life by the renowned stereographer William Morris Grundy (1806-1859), to create a harmonious interweaving of verse and imagery. Grundy was born in Birmingham, moving to Sutton Coldfield in 1850. Initially taking up photography as a hobby in 1855, he went on to achieve…

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions…
