London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green, 1827. Hardcover. Good. x, 311p. 19.5 cm hardcover binding. Inscription on front endpaper: "Presented to his brother William Robertson with best wishes for his happiness by the Author." Original binding worn with deterioration to spine. Original spine label darkened but present. Boards held on with duct tape. Claret boards also stained, scuffed and worn. Inside, the pages are clean and the text unmarked.
Inscription is by John Robertson (1797-1876) but it is not signed with his name. Dr. Robertson specialized the study of pregnancy and child development, and is an important figure in the development of modern obstetrics. He wrote numerous books on the subject, including this one. He was also an important UK social reformer speaking out on issues such as landowner responsibility, and education in Ireland.
