About This Item
London: printed by T Bensley; and sold by Thomas Egerton; and William Laing Edinburgh, 1795. Book. Very Good. Full-Leather. Inscribed By the Editor. First Edition - First Printing. The Orygynale Cronykil of Scotland is a history of Scotland from the beginning of the world until the accession of King James I. Wyntoun wrote in eight syllable verse and couplets to form a primitive poetry. Composed of 30,000 verses the Cronykil is divided into nine books, and each book is divided into chapters. The first five books focus on the creation of the world in general, and Scottish history commences in the sixth. The eighth book is longer than the first four combined. Bound in peroid calf with gilt decroation. The books hinges are starting and the corners are bumped. The inscription reads "The editor of Wyntoun's Cronykil begs M Tytler"s acceptance of this copy as a mark of his respect and gratitude for the great care and attention bestowed by him in furnishing collations which were of very great service in preparing the authors text for publication." Volume one has an owner name on the title page Mrs. Fraser Tytler donum (gift) edition, volume 2 on the half title page has A.( Alexander) Fraser Tytler.
