New York, NY 10010, U.S.A.: The Modern Library, 1970. First Thus Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Baskin, Leonard (jacket illustration). Among other honors, THE PAINTED BIRD won the Prix du Meilleur Livre Etranger in France for the best foreign work of fiction. Kosinski also won the National Book Award for Fiction for his novel STEPS. Fine, in black cloth boards with debossed "ML" blind stamp on front, and bright silver spine titles; book exhibits no wear or age-toning of pages, has sharp corners and clean text block edges. Dust jacket is very good, is not price-clipped, but with minor chipping at spine ends, and a small vertical tear and crease above title at top: jacket is largely intact and presents very well in mylar. Very scarce title, especially in this condition. OFC 3F
