Author's first novel, basis for the 1971 Al Pacino film of the same name.
"Bobby is a heroin addict who lives in "Needle Park," the nickname for an area on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where junkies congregate. He meets Helen (Kitty Winn), a lonely homeless girl, and they fall in love. However, Bobby also introduces Helen to heroin, and she eventually becomes addicted, too. As Bobby and Helen become more and more dependent on each other and on heroin, their need for money to feed their habit grows, resulting in crime, desperation and betrayal."

New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1966. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/good +. 212 pp. Red boards over black cloth backstrip, spine lettered in red and silver, with the dust jacket. Minor rubbing to head and tail of spine and corners; the jacket shows heavier rubbing with a couple of small chips and tears and an inch chip at the top edge of the front panel, affecting "The" in the title. The book was the basis for the 1971 film which was Al Pacino's first starring feature film role, with a screenplay by Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne. Scarce, especially the first edition.
