Original space-flown flag (5½" X 4¼") and cloth patch (4¼" X 4 3/4") presented on a 12 3/4" X 16 3/4" cream colored heavy stock, in turn mounted to a 16" X 20" pale blue mat board. Very good. Bit of slight soiling. The cream colored stock bears glossy photographs on the upper left (takeoff) and lower right (landing) corners. At lower left is a circular flute-edged NASA gold foil seal, and the space-flown flag is mounted at upper right -- consisting of the State Seal of Illinois, with the word "ILLINOIS" below, against a white background. The printed text cited above appears immediately below this flag, and the crew patch below this text. JOHN YOUNG (born 1930) signs boldly in black ink to the left of the patch, while ROBERT L. Washington DC, 1825. SIGNED by "J. Q. Adams" as President of the United States, "H. Clay" as Secretary of State and "William Wirt" as Attorney General. Clean, affirmative signatures. 11.5" x 15" Vellum document. Small corner tear on bottom right and top left not close to any script. Remnants of folding into sixths for both the document and the application are still evident. Overlaying the ribbon is affixed the Great Seal of the United States with foxing on some of the perimeter and very light remnant of red colorization of the seal. <br /> <br /> The application is one and a half pages of handwritten description for the churn front and back of a parchment. It was also folded in sixths with the patent and has two holes worn through, one 2 inches and the other 1 inch. Holes cut above four words on the first page but do not affect script on page two. Both documents, application and patent are joined together with a blue ribbon that ends in a flourish. Fine patent and Good Application are housed in archival mylar and a portfolio.<br /> <br /> Applicant was Hiram Baird, a Citizen of the United States. Mr. Baird's description is one and a half side hand written explanation of how to improve the performance of churning machines by shaft rotation and detailed description of the machinery is described. Patent is witnessed by two two individuals, Lewis Merwin and Abram Patterson. "...the shaft of this machine may be turned by almost any power that fancy may dictate. My chief improvement in churning consists in moving the machinery by the shaft. This improvement may be any way varied in position, and magnitude.

1905. Good +. Signed 3-page typescript of a agreement of sale between the American Baptist Publication Society and John Wanamaker. The American Baptist Publication Society sold to John Wanamaker the Crozier Building at 1420 and 1422 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, for $900,000. The Crozier Building was designed by Frank Miles Day & Brother and was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 1980. American merchant John Wanamaker (1838-1922) had made $1.5 million in profits and interest from his stores in Philadelphia and New York in 1904, suggesting that his acquisition of the Crozier Building was an investment. The Crozier Building has continued to function as a successful office building to this day. In Good+ Condition: chipping at edges; loss of lower corner of first page, with minor loss of text; separating along some of the 2 horizontal creases in each page; signatures are clean and intact.

William Ward was one of the organizers of the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad and in 1874 was the president and treasurer pro tem. Letters #1 and #2 (Sept. 5 and Dec. 5, 1873) are from Jos. H. McKeehan, an attorney in Philadelphia, who is writing about deliquent subscribers to the railroad. Letter #3 (Dec. 18, 1873) is from the Village Record, a newspaper in West Chester, Pa., with a copy of the advertisement that ran in the paper listing the dates that instalments from railroad subscribers were due in 1872.
