Description:
Berlin: Propylaen-Verlag, 1927. This is a very good hardcover copy in the familiar green paper-covered boards with gilt device to the front cover, and black leather spine with red panel printed with gilt titles. Text in German. This is one of the best one volume surveys of European architecture at the beginning of the 20th century. The work of over 100 architects is surveyed and classified by building types and styles. Profusely illustrated with 25 tipped-in color plates mounted on stiff black paper, and hundreds of black & white photos, plans and drawings. Thumbnail biographies. Index. The edges of the boards are rubbed, the corners a bit worn, but the leather spine is fine with no fraying or fading, or marks of any kind. Inside the book is generally very clean, but a couple of pages have edges or corners creased. The table of contents page has the blind stamp of the well known New York architectural firm Starrett & Van Vleck. 10 1/2" high X 7 1/2" wide, 607 pages. This book will…

Paris: Arts et Metiers Graphiques, 1959. This is a very good softcover copy in the original illustrated wrappers. It was given as a gift by Andre Remondet to the American Institute of Architects shortly after publication, and so has a bookplate from the Institute on the inside front cover identifying it as given by Remondet to the Institute. Andre Remondet was a colleague of Auguste Perret and worked with him on a number of projects. Remondet also helped Bernard Champigneulle in his research for this book and is thanked by the author in the credits. There are a few marks of institutional ownership of the book: the aforementioned bookplate, an abraded area (where a spine label was), a withdrawn stamp or label which has been removed from the page it was pasted down on, and left laid in, and a red line under Andre Remondet's name in the credits. Otherwise completely clean, no other marks to text or illustrations. Edge-wear to dustwrapper. Text in French. 101 black & white illustrations. Chronological list of works by Perret. Still one of the best books on Perret, and this copy of additional interest because of the Remondet connection. 11" high X 8" wide, 159 pages. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.. Original Wraps. Very Good.

Description:
This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
