Culver City: MGM Studios, 1934. Original dupicated script for the film, released the following year. This copy was originally designated for the use of the research director, but later utilized to supply one of 10 prize copies for a slogan contest in the English fan magazine, “Picturegoer.” A clipping from that periodical laid into this copy identifies this example as being won by Miss Hazel Russell of Sheffield. Studio wrappers; brad-bound; script dept. label chipped; torn at the brads; minor soiling. The ten prize copies were signed by 38 members of the cast and crew of the film and included David O. Selznick (producer), George Cukor (director), Cedric Gibbons (art director), Oliver Marsh (cinematographer), Hugh Walpole and Howard Estabrook (writers), and by players W.C. Fields, Basil Rathbone, Edna May Oliver, Lionel Barrymore, Roland Young, Maureen O’Sulivan, Freddie Bartholomew, et al. This movie version holds up remarkably well, particularly in its inspired casting of Fields as Micawber. Fields replaced Charles Laughton, and was hired on his recommendation.

Description:
In 4. Dim. 28,5x22 cm. Pp. LVI+376. In buone condizioni. Copertina in cartonato coevo con titolo…

London: Ernest Benn, Limited, 1929. FIRST UK EDITION. 8vo, pp. xxi, [iii], 203, [1]. Original brown cloth, orange lettering to spine. Chip and wear to head of spine, bruising and wear to bottom extremities, blotching to lower board. Top edge dusty, fore-edge a little spotted. Feps lightly toned, pushing to bottom corner of a couple of early signatures, short closed tears to top edges of pp. 89-104, reaching 2cm at pp. 103-4, text unaffected. Else, pleasingly clean and tidy. Very good. Unusual in the trade, though fairly well represented in British and Irish research libraries. 'With an Introduction on the American Negro in Art' by Du Bose Heyward. Publication of the British edition of the Heywards' play (plus other international editions) coincided with an eleven-week European tour of Porgy in spring 1929. It opened without previews on 10 April at His Majesty's Theatre, London and closed on 1 June 1929. While British theatre-goers welcomed the Porgy cast, with the opening night apparently receiving 12…
