Collins, 1962. Hardcover. Good/Acceptable. 1962. First Edition. 256 pages. Blue pictorial dust jacket over blue cloth. Contains black and white illustrations by Jules Feiffer. Illustrated endpapers and pastedowns. Pages are lightly tanned throughout. Slightly more pronounced to half title page and page 256, corresponding with dust jacket flaps. Binding is firm. Minor pencil inscription to top edge of front free endpaper. Minor creases to fore edge of pages 20-44. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped and spine ends are mildly crushed. Minor sunning marks to spine ends. Silver lettering to spine remains bright and clear. Unclipped jacket priced 15s net. Panels have heavy edge wear with chips, tears and creasing. Substantial area of loss to spine and edges. Noticeable tanning with some faint dust marks overall.

Synopsis

The Phantom Tollbooth is a children's adventure novel and a modern fairy tale published in 1961, written by Norton Juster and illustrated by Jules Feiffer. It tells the story of a bored young boy named Milo who unexpectedly receives a magic tollbooth one afternoon and, having nothing better to do, drives through. He finds himself in the Kingdom of Wisdom. There he accepts a quest to rescue the princesses of the kingdom, acquires two faithful companions, and has many adventures.

This is one of my favorite books. It is a VERY funny and clever story about a journey through strange lands. The book is full of puns, wordplay and weirdness.
