Second book by this young African American artist (published when he was only 20) - the story of 2 young boys walking through Harlem and trying to decide what they 're going to be - a realistic picture of life as the boys talk about playing "cops and junkies" with a real-life junkie and visit a black-owned bookstore, worry about how the older brother who just got drafted, and more - all conveyed in simple words and the artist's glowing full-color paintings. Bound in illustrated boards with a black cloth spine and white endpapers. Includes the oddly-placed full number line.

A story of life on Olvera Street in old Los Angeles for a four-year old girl, told with Politi's sensitiveness and beautifully illustrated with his paintings throughout. Born in Fresno, California, Politi studied art in Italy, but when he returned to California he settled in Los Angeles near Olivera Street. Included in the story is the music to three songs. INSCRIBED by Politi on the page facing the title page "Horace with best wishes from Juanita and me" and dated in 1950. The large 'H' in Horace is embellished with watercolor paintings of flowers.
