Paris: Esnault, 1819. Book. Very good condition. Hardcover. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Pocket map. Meaures approximately 21.75 inches height x 31 width (555mm x 790mm). Original outline hand-color designates districts of the city. Numerous small tears at folds, and three small tape repairs applied to back of map. Four pin holes where notes are affixed with straight pins. Printed on extremely thick paper, this thirty-six section folding map is housed in the original casing, with printed front cover label which states simply "Nouveau Plan de Paris." Moderate rubbing and soiling, with two tape repairs. Title continues "... Divise en 12 Mairies Municipale et par Quartiers Revuet Corrige par Amédée Martin et Depose a la Direction Genle de l'Imprimerie.".

Bella pianta di Parigi (cm. 55,5 x 81), incisa in rame su carta pesante, più volte ripiegata, con le zone delineate da contorni a penna blu, rossa, verde e gialla; titolo inciso sul lato dx in alto ed elenco alfabetico delle vie disposto sugli altri 3 lati. La pianta è conservata in una custodia (cm. 15,7 x 10,5) in cartone rosso con titolo “Nouveau Plan de Paris” su etichetta. Picc. buchino a una delle pieghe della carta, peraltro ben conservata; la custodia presenta delle lievi manc.

Original engraved plan of Paris (56.5 x 85 cm) dissected into 36 sections and mounted onto linen, original outline colour, folding into marbled slipcase with label to spine and manuscript annotations in English "This map of Paris will be found more useful to the study of the French Revolution than a more modern one" to upper portion, index to margins. Generally an excellent copy. Charles Picquet (1771-1827), was Geographer to Napolean (and later to the king), who appears to have had close connections to the government: in the title of the present work, it is noted that the plan includes recent governmental building projects in the city. Picquet was also the distributor of maps for the Depot de la Guerre. Keyed to the plan are literally hundreds of streets and structures listed in columns on either side of the plan. The city's various political divisions are also explained in text below the plan.

A popular Napoleonic-era street plan of Paris, published a number of times, 1797-1815; OCLC locates three copies of this printing (Biblioteca Nacional de Espana, Biblithèque Nationale de France, Pennsylvania).
