NY: Knopf First edition, first prnts (1960, 1971, 1981, 1990). RABBIT, RUN in quarter-cloth and paper-covered boards with gilt lettering in dustjacket with the sixteen line blurb on the front flap (often referred to as the first issue dustjacket). Post-it on front free end page with Updike's holograph note. "Ok - send Rabbit, Run with s.a.s.e." Inscribed by Updike on the title page. "for Matthew Lucas Best wishes, John Updike 4/6/08." Additionally, Updike has drawn a dialogue balloon at the Borzoi's mouth and written in it "ARF!" The book is a tight copy with board edge toning, shelfwear and bumped bottom corners; the dustjacket is chipped at the spine ends and corners with a small perforation on the rear panel and a chip at the rear panel topedge, toning mostly on spine with minor wear and a shallow crease on the front flap, and a closed tear along the front flap fold. It is in Good condition in a Fair dustjacket. RABBIT REDUX in cloth-coverd boards with gilt lettering. It is inscribed by Updike on the title page. "for Matthew Lucas Best wishes John Updike." Minor rubbing on board cloth, beginning toning on blue topstain, faint small stain on foreedge and one text page with a corner crease; the dustjacket has minor shelfwear and slight soiling on rear panel topedge. It is a tight copy in Very Good condition in a Very Good dustjacket. RABBIT IS RICH in cloth-covered baords with gilt lettering. It is inscribed by Updike on the title page. "for Matthew Lucas Best wishes John Updike." Cloth spine ends wrinkled and beginning foxing on the foreedge; the dustjacket has faint beginning toning on the white surfaces. The book is in Very Good condition in a Very Good dustjacket. RABBIT AT REST in cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering. It is inscribed and dated by Updike on the title page. "for Matthew Lucas Best wishes, John Updike June 23, 08." It has minimal soiling on the foredge. The book is in Near Fine condition and the dustjacket is in Fine condition. Each dustjacket is in an archival cover. Additionally there are two notes to the inscriptee laid-in. One is a holograph note on a 5x7 inch ruled yellow notepad sheet dated "March 27." "Dear Mr. Lucas - Have no fear. My wife and I spend the month of March in Arizona and I will sign and send your book as soon as we get back on April 5th* Yours, John Updike *:It is undoubtedly among my unforwarded mail." The second is typed on a 5x7.75 inch white sheet dated "May 3, 08." "Dear Mr. Lucas: thank you for your letter, and I'm glad you received your Rabbit, Run at last. I'll be happy to sign the others if you send me a way to get them back to you. As to first editions: Knopf is very good about printing that information on the colophon page; not all publishers do. Almost any copy of Redux that you find is apt to be a first edition, since it was a large printing that turned out to be optimistic. In general, an author dislikes the first edition, which is apt to have typos and errors in it; he values more highly the latest edition, which corrects some of them. Your kind words about the texts are much appreciated. Yours truly" and signed in ink "John Updike." Below his signature Updike has used his blue return address stamp. Folded in half. Four volumes, the complete Harry Angstrom narrative which has won the Pulitzer Prize (RABBIT IS RICH and RABBIT AT REST) and the National Book Award (RABBIT IS RICH).. Inscribed By Author with Note. First Edition. Hardcovers. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
NY: Knopf, 1965. First edition, first prnt. Signed by Tyler on the title page. Laid in is a typed note with ink signature on 6x7 inch 20lb stock. "Louise: here is a peculiar little book which I was suppose (sic) to review but couldn't think of anything to say about -- which is not to say I didn't like it. But it left me baffled. See what you think. It's coming out this month. Behave yourself. Either get rid of the whiskey or the scatter rugs. I know what I'd do. Love, (indecipherable first name signature - could be "Helen")." The front board has a faint rust mark left by a paperclip; otherwise it is an exceptionally clean, tight copy; the dustjacket has the upper corners just touched, mildly sunned spine and a shallow paperclip impression on the front panel upper edge - see scan. The note (which obviously does not refer to the novel)is folded in half with few shallow wrinkles. Near Fine condition in a Very Good dustjacket with an archival cover. Tyler's second…

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence.
