New York: Random House, 1931. Limited edition. Hardcover. Limited edition, printed by the Grabhorn Press, of 980 copies fo which this is copy number 378. Small folio, 142 pp, with decorations by Valenti Angelo, including chapter heading vignettes. One quarter black cloth with blue and gray star patterned boards. Title in gilt at brown spine label. Boards are gently rubbed at corners. Internally, pages lightly but evenly toned; back hinge starting. Very good.
Synopsis
The Red Badge of Courage is an 1895 war novel by American author Stephen Crane. It is considered one of the most influential works in American literature. The novel, a depiction on the cruelty of the American Civil War, features a young recruit who overcomes initial fears to become a hero on the battlefield. The book made Crane an international success.
