New York: Harper & Brothers, Publishers, 1875.. 1875.. Good. - Octavo, dark green cloth titled in gilt on the front cover & spine. The binding is bumped & rubbed with a few small white stains to the front cover. The head & tail of the spine are lightly chipped. xiv & pages [15]- 531 plus 2-page publisher's catalog. Illustrated in black-and-white with a frontispiece & 7 black-and-white plates with tissue guards, & textual illustrations. There is damage to the endpapers, including 2 holes in the rear endpaper, where labels have been removed. There is scattered foxing & light staining & the page edges are darkened. Ex-library with a library label on the front pastedown. Good. <p>First edition.

Very Good. 8vo. 531, [1], [1]-2 (pages of publisher's advertisements), [2] pp. Red blind-ruled publisher's cloth with gold lettering on the front board and spine. Brown coated endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a wood-engraved frontispiece and with several wood-engraved plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Burke and Howe 450-451. Myers was a Professor of History at the University of Cincinnatti. This volume is a compendium of his travels. He records observations and illustrations of Palmyra, an important ancient historical site (which has now been largely destroyed), Damascus, Baghdad, the Tigris river, ruins and the palace in Cashmere, the Taj Mahal, Assyrian and Babylonian archaeological materials, and an examination of British Imperialism in India.
