Title, [1] leaf & 326 pages plus colophon. Illustrated with maps by Ian Schoenherr. Fine. <p>Number 11 of a limited edition of 200 copies.<p>Inscribed by the author on the verso of the flyleaf: "To Peter Matthiessen, / with much gratitude / Carl Zimmer".<p>According to the author, "This story is of the nine years and eight months that Esther Szymanski and I spent together. As far as possible, I have tried to make this an accurate account." The author's account includes travels to Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. The book is designed by Charles Nix. "The text is set in Nix Rift, a type created especially for and named in honor of this volume. It is based on the William Addison Dwiggins design for metal type 'Eldorado'". Charles Nix is the son of a printer. He studied art, design and typography at the Cooper Union and has designed hundreds of books and a handful of typefaces.<p>Rare.
