London: Hodder and Stoughton, c.1916 First edition. x,246 pp. Octavo. Original straight grained burgundy cloth. Gilt title on spine. Binding very clean and bright. Frontispiece. 36 black and white illustrations on 16 pages. Original illustrated dustwrapper which is somewhat soiled but complete. A few minor chips and other staining otherwise a great copy in the very scarce wrapper. Martin Louis Alan Gompertz (1886 1951) was an Anglo-Indian soldier and writer. He wrote two travel books on Ladakh, the Tibetan enclave in North-West Kashmir, and the above title as well as adventure fiction. 1916
