About This Item

London: Hutchinson, 1977. Book. Near Fine. Cloth. First English. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. London, Hutchinson, 1977. First English edition. 8vo. Lustrous black cloth with silver lettering on spine, 688 pp. Haley has done more than recapture the history of his own family, he is the first black American writer to trace his origins back to his roots and in doing so, he has re-discovered for millions of Americans of African descent a rich cultural heritage. This story is one of the most eloquent testimonials ever written to the indomitability of the human spirit! Near fine in a near fine dust jacket, protected by a mylar cover..

Synopsis

Tracing his ancestry through six generations - slaves and freedmen, farmers and blacksmiths, lawyers and architects - back to Africa, Alex Haley discovered a sixteen-year-old youth, Kunta Kinte. It was this young man, who had been torn from his homeland and in torment and anguish brought to the slave markets of the New World, who held the key to Haley's deep and distant past. Originally published: Garden City, N.Y. : Doubleday, 1976.
