1883 publication of Alexander Gardner. Complete as a three book set. Published as a limited edition of 86 sets (offered in this listing is set number 52) that were distributed to members of the Maitland Club, a Scottish historical society.

Along with the history of the Caldwell estate, the books contain correspondence between William Mure (1718-1776) and two of his more famous friends; John Stuart (The Earl of Bute, who also served briefly as Prime Minister), and David Hume.

Contents of the three books include:

Part One:
The signed and numbered limitation page...
Roster of the Maitland Club... Miscellaneous papers pertaining to the Mure Family and Caldwell Manor, dated 1496 to 1731...
Tacks (leases) pertaining to Caldwell and other properties in western Scotland...

Part Two, Volume One:
Correspondence of William Mure dated between 1733 and 1764, including correspondence both sent to and received from Stuart and Hume

Part Two, Volume Two:Correspondence and papers of William Mure dated between 1765 and 1775...
Correspondence and papers of William Mure of Caldwell (died in 1831, and was the son of Mure the elder). Mure the younger fought for the British during the American Revolution. His papers are dated between 1777 and 1821, and a few of them contain references to Mure's experiences during the Revolutionary War.

Condition of all three books is Good. The exteriors show light to moderate wear from age and storage. The bindings are sound, with the exception of a cracked but firm hinge in Part One (at the limitation page). Inside pages are complete and unmarked.

Standard shipping is USPS Media Mail. Expedited or overseas shipping options will require a shipping surcharge.
