About This Item

Cincinnati, Ohio: Alliance Carriage Co, 1895. Paperback. Good. 78, [2] p.: illustrations; 9 x 15 cm. Stapled. Full-page woodcut illustrations of the offices and production rooms of the Alliance Carriage Co. Demonstrates the pre-assembly line process of manufacturing. Also includes an illustration of the bicycle Alliance Boy no. 3. The Alliance Carriage Co. had been in business in Cincinnati, Ohio, since 1888 or earlier. Apparently it explored transitioning to the production of automobiles in the 1890s, when it produced a vehicle designed by the British mechanical engineer Walter MacLeod, but seems to have gone out of business by 1900. Very scarce. In Good Condition: closed 8-cm. tear from upper edge of first leaf, with archival internal repair; lightly creased; clean and solid.
