Quarto (27cm); decorative paper and black cloth-covered boards, with printed title label applied to spine; unprinted turqouise dustjacket; 85, [1]pp. Signed on the colophon beneath a large original drawing of a smoking man next to a bottle. Fine in a Fine dustjacket. Late collection of poems, uncharacteristically issued by Black Sparrow in a single edition of 750 numbered and signed copies, with an additional 26 lettered copies. Notable for containing the poem "Dinosauria, we," which inspired the title for John Dullaghan's 2003 documentary "Bukowski: Born Into This." About the best copy one could hope for - the type that separates the good from the great. Krumhansl 122a.

In a very good dust jacket with a couple short closed tears, and some droplet stains to the rear panel. This copy SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Gluck on the leaf opposite the half-title to fellow author and literary critic David Madden: "For David, with warm wishes. Louise Gluck." Madden's ownership signature appears on the front free endpaper, as does the previous owner, fellow North Carolina poet and author [Katherine] "Bonnie" Soniat. Gluck's second book is scarce in the first printing, especially signed, and particularly in the time since Gluck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020.

Finely bound, by Ramage of London, in beautiful early full brick red morocco, gilt. The spine with raised bands. Compartments ruled, decorated and lettered in gilt, including dark green dyed central dots. Elaborate floral centre design to boards with gilt tooling over green and fawn leather onlays. Floral corner decorations with green morocco onlays. Board edges with partial ruled gilt lines. Inner Dentelles fully decorated with gilt ruled lines and floral designs, surrounding fawn Moire silk centre pieces. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. Spine just very slightly toned. A light mark to the top outer corner of the rear silk endpaper. Neat school prize label, from St. George's school Harpenden and dated 1913, to the front blank free endpaper and gilt coat of arms stamp to the front inner board but otherwise the pages are clean and bright throughout. A beautiful copy.

Each poem is strongly autobiographical and especially "Hangovers". The poem "The word" speaks of his life in cheap rooming house trying to survive while reading Hemingway, Kierkegaard, E.E. Cummings and falling asleep drunk while the paperbacks hit the store causing the landlady to complain about the noise. A fine copy bound in ¼ black cloth over decorative paper covered boards lettered and decorated in black, turquoise, gray and pink, paper spine label lettered in black and turquoise in the original plain turquoise dust jacket with 3 small closed edge tears. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.

The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. The author graduated Kennett (Missouri) High School in 1973. Copy of newspaper [DDD] article about the KHS reunion on Jan 18, 2004 laid in.
