Quarter-calf, front hinge shows wear but firm. Particulars in gilt to spine; raised bands. Some passages underlined in blue ink and name stamp "Servando Diego Jr." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 601 pages; All shipments through USPS insured Priority Mail.

1852 softcover pamphlet discussing the downside of tobacco. When I got this the cover was off. Volume has had some restoration: cover is backed with matching paper and is reattached. Paper and binding are fragile but overall readable with a gentle touch. Primary defect is the corner off the front page. Interior has foxing and stains but no vandalism. I think the author comes out of the same group that published Solomon Spittle (which I also have listed). 1852 is the first year this was published but this is titled "Fourth Thousand" so this is an early printing. Has 8 plates that are included in pagination. 179 pages, complete as issued. An uncommon item generally found in poor condition. This is decent not great (which sometimes is the best you can do). Topic is health problems of tobacco. Discusses addiction, acute toxicity, chronic health problems including heart and lung disease as well as problems of second hand smoke. Feel free to inquire. Includes an excerpt from Happiness Bastard by Kirby Doyle (6 years before its book publication). Unmarked copy, horizontal mailing crease (but not addressed or mailed), some minor soil and wear.
