Description:
New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, [1962]., 1962. First edition. First edition. 8vo. Cloth, light green front and rear endpapers, 350 pp., illustrated, map, acknowledgments, quotation sources, index. Beautiful illustrations by Edward Sanborn. The author tells us of the Sierra Mountains of northern California. Through the years the mountains have been the scene of earthquakes, avalanches, floods and fires, presented challenges to countless explorers and emigrants, was the end of the trail for the 1849 California Gold Rush, plus much on stage coach robbers with a chapter titled "Throw Down That Treasure Box, Sir." Very good, sound copy in dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends and a tiny closed tear to the bottom edge of the front cover.
